The Environmental Campus Organization (ECO) at Truman State University
offers opportunities for members to educate fellow students and ourselves
about environmental issues as well as simple daily actions that are
environmentally mindful. Any student (with any major) interested in the
environment are encouraged to join – just attend our meetings and help with
our events!
In order to promote environmental activism and education, we sponsor
several events and activites such as:
Open Not-Mic Nights at the Aquadome – a fantastic evening of music,
poetry, prose and spontaneous comedy without electricity – we use
candles instead.
Stream Team – litter pick up at Bear Creek (the one that runs through
campus) every fall and spring.
Earth Day Festival – occurs every year on April 22, usually in
conjunction with downtown businesses to expand awareness to the
community as well as campus.
Movie Night – a gathering of people enjoying snacks and a movie
dealing with environmental issues. Past movies have included Baraka,
Princess Mononoke, Fern Gully.
Educational Tables – about once a month, we set up a table in the
Student Union Building or McClain to promote general awareness of a
specific environmental issue and how students can help.
Fundraisers such as Bake Sales – all foods are vegetarian and some are
vegan.
Anything else that we put our minds to.
Many members of ECO also volunteer at Truman’s Recycling Center located
on LaHarpe St. south of Patterson St. and the rugby field.
We meet every Tuesday at 8:30 pm on the couches next to the Game Room in
the SUB.
Upcoming events include:
Vegetarian Dinner – date and time TBA
Earth Week Festival – April 19-24
Earth Day and Festival – April 22
Environmental Studies Conference – April 22-24
